Background

• COGENT SSC has a remit to the Cogent footprint
  industries to develop National Occupational
  Standards and ensure NVQs and Vocationally
  related qualifications are developed.
• NOS benchmarks that define competent practice
  (other uses of NOS include development planning,
  industry benchmarking, design and development of
  training courses and training)
• NVQs qualifications that give recognition of
  competence
• VRQ include BTec National Certificates, City
  and Guilds etc used as underpinning knowledge for
  NVQs and as technical certificates in
  apprenticeships.

Background

• To build the framework of NOS and NVQs an
  Occupational Map and Functional Map for the
  industry sector is needed.
• These will define what NOS and qualifications
  could be developed the industry will then
  decide whether not it is useful to do so.

Project Aims

• Develop an Occupational Map and a Functional Map
  for the Cogent Sector Industries
• Use the recently developed Career Pathways (where
  available) as a starting point
• Compare outcomes with NOS/NVQ/VRQ (vocationally
  related qualifications)
• Develop a NOS action plan leading to NVQ
  development
• Support the Sector Qualification Strategy leading
  to VRQ development
