Young Life

• He grew up in Norristown Pennsylvania.

Why Did He Choose to be an Author?

• Jerry Spinelli chose to be an author because
  after considering being a cowboy or a baseball
  player he finally started thinking about being an
  author.

Family

• Jerry Spinelli has six children and sixteen
  grandchildren. He also has a wife named Eileen.
  They live in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania with two
  of their sons.

First Thing Jerry Spinelli Published

• The first thing Jerry Spinelli published was a
  poem in the town paper. It was about the victory
  his school football team won. He was sixteen
  years old. He decided to mark the occasion in
  his own way by writing a poem.

Activities

• When he is not writing books he likes to play
  with his grandchildren, play tennis, pick
  berries, look at the Milky Way, read, listens to
  country music and he enjoys riding trains.

Facts

• So far Jerry has five film contracts for his
  books Maniac Magee, Milkweed, Stargirl, Wringer
  and Crash.
• Jerry doesnt have any pets but he used to have
  rats.
• His favorite book he read as a kid was Babar the
  Elephant he asked his mom to read it over and
  over to him.
• Went to Gettysburg College

• Favorite book he wrote is Space Station Seventh
  Grade.

Favorite Authors

• His favorite writer is Eileen Spinelli. He also
  likes Loren Eiseley because he thinks his essays
  are beautiful and inspiring.

• He was forty one when he wrote his first kid
  book.
