Motivation
  • We want to monitor gas quality with high
    precision
  • Nitrogen in the TRD will accumulate over the time
  • ? three component gas mixture (Xe-CO2-N2)
  • GOOFIE as a drift velocity monitor (NA49 TPC,
    CERES TPC, HADES MDC, STAR FTPC), for Alice TPC
    extended to monitor gas composition
  • Requirements
  • Drift field 700 V/cm !!!
  • Measurement of the drift velocity and gain
  • Drift velocity resolution better then 10
