CWS Identified Internships
  • A CWS Identified Internship is an internship
    where Wellesley finds and funds a summer
    internship opportunity and the students apply
    directly to us, rather than the organization.
    Internships vary in focus around the world.

Overview
  • Sophomores juniors are eligible
  • For class of 2011
  • did not previously receive internship in same
    region/program
  • From class of 2012 onwards
  • will be eligible for only one identified
    internship award
  • Length 10 weeks, full-time
  • specific start/end date usually June 1, 2010 to
    August 6, 2010
  • Students may not apply to an internship in their
    city of residence (or for international
    locations, the country)
  • Indicate 1st and 2nd choice sites

  • Childrens Hospital (Boston, MA)
  • Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative
  • Luce Internships in Asia (China, Japan, Korea,

  • Wellesley in Africa (Uganda, Morocco, Cape Verde,
    etc.)
  • Wellesley in India (New Delhi, Mumbai, etc.)
  • Wellesley in Latin America (Costa Rica,

Application Process

Award
  • 3,500 for domestic internships.
  • 5,000 for international internships.
  • Award covers all costs, including self-scheduled
    airfare and housing.
  • Some sites the housing will be provided and
    housing cost will be subtracted from award.

Tips for a successful application
  • Read the description of the internship closely
    research the organization contact past interns
    from Tanner book.
  • Write a good essay that details how your
    strengths mirror the requirements of the
    internship. Address your first choice placement
    in your essay with a paragraph on your second
    choice.
  • Ask your faculty for the letter of reference
    early. Bring supporting materials to make the job
    easier for the person recommending you.
  • Demonstrate maturity, adaptability and
    responsibility throughout the process.

CWS Summer Stipend Fund
  • A CWS Summer Stipend supports students who find
    their own internship or service project. These
    stipends offer students the opportunity to
    conduct an unpaid internship in not-for-profit
    and public service organizations, and some
    for-profit entities.
  • A few stipends are designated for internships
    related to Women in Government or International
    Journalism.

Overview
  • Sophomores and juniors are eligible. Two stipends
    geared towards non-profits/volunteerism are
    available to seniors.
  • Students may receive ONE stipend during their
    time at Wellesley.
  • Internships last 350 hours, flexible dates.
  • Students determine their own goals and describe
    up to 5 organizations that further them. There
    are no location restrictions.

Funding Proposal
  • Proposals describe students personal/professional
    goals and relevant organizations.
  • May include up to 5 organizations. By including
    these organizations, you commit to applying to
    all.
  • ALL organizations have to be either domestic or
    ALL have to be international.
