is creating excellent time on task
3Average Reading Gains, All Grades
Overall, both schools have achieved similar
average time on task and gains.
4Significant Correlations between New Century
Reading Activities and Gains

relationship between time on task and gains is
significant.

At all grades, students targeted for the New
Century Reading intervention are making progress
toward grade level.

on Task

time in the program achieved 8 to 9 months gain.
7Statistical Analysis Verifies New Century Usage
Causes Increase in Reading Gains
- All students from school A and school B were
divided into quartiles based on their usage of
New Century Reading Courseware. - An ANCOVA was performed comparing Gains for
students across all levels of usage of New
Century Reading courseware. Students grades
were used as a covariate. - The ANCOVA was significant at the plt.01 level.
1Scores adjusted based on grade
8School C Results
- New Century was introduced at the school via
Homework Club and Newcomers Group - Based on the needs of these groups, New Century
was implemented in Math as well as in Reading - Data not directly comparable to Schools A and B
- Lower time on task per subject due to dual usage
- 111 students have benefited from the program this
year, plan to expand into classrooms next year
9School C Students with High Time on Task
Average Gains in both subject areas among
students with higher than average time on task
are especially strong given the target
group Math 5 months average gain for students
with gt than 2 hours Reading 3 months average
gain for students with gt than 3 hours
10New Century Education
- Based on the overall gains that Soledad schools
have shown using New Century Education over the
past semester, we look forward to the opportunity
to expand our program within your district.
