Research Question

• How does Lake Munson compare to Ames Sink with
  respect to pH, dissolved Oxygen, and electrical
  conductivity?

Hypothesis

• We believe that Lake Munson will be more polluted
  than Ames Sink.
• Predictions for Lake Munson
• Higher pH level
• Lower Dissolved Oxygen
• Higher Electrical Conductivity

Procedure

• Collected three samples for each protocol at Lake
  Munson.
• pH
• Electrical Conductivity
• Dissolved Oxygen
• Performed the protocols on site.
• This was repeated at Ames Sink the next day!!!

Lake Munson

• Surrounded by cypress trees which had tannins
  that possibly leaked into the water which could
  affect pH.
• The water was flowing at a moderate rate.
• When the samples were taken some soil was
  unsettled and might have contaminated the water.
• Samples where collected at the outflow of the
  lake.

Ames Sink

• Flow from Lake Munson empties into this sinkhole.
  
• Covered by canopy and got lots of leaking tannins
  from the trees above. The water looked dirtier
  than Lake Munson (tea colored).
• There were lots of leaves on the surface of the
  water.
• Water flowed at a slower rate than Lake Munson.
• Samples were collected at the inflow of the lake.

Conclusions

• Ames Sink is slightly more acidic than Lake
  Munson.
• Electrical conductivity is higher in Ames Sink,
  thus there are more ions in Ames Sink than in
  Lake Munson.
• Dissolved oxygen levels in Ames Sink are
  considerably lower than those in Lake Munson.
  (However, both water bodies contain less DO than
  the Florida standard 5.0 ppm!)
• It would require further investigation to make
  conclusive statements with respect to the overall
  water quality of these water bodies.

Ways to Improve theInvestigation

• More trials would increase the certainty of our
  results.
• The use of a dissolved oxygen meter might have
  produced more accurate DO data .
• Observations at different locations at each site
  would give overall representations of the water
  body.
