What is Diversity?

• Diversity (multicultural education) refers to the
  different characteristics of the students that
  make up the student body.
• This includes race, ethnicity, religion, customs.
• It also can include learning styles, age,
  multiple intelligences, and language minority
  students.

Bilingual Education

• Bilingual Education is important to incorporate
  into the schools.
• Students should be given a chance to succeed
  regardless of their language.

Bilingual Education cont.
School systems should find a method that
can help language minority students. Teachers
should be encouraged to learn another language so
that they can best help their language minority
students to succeed. No student should be just
pushed through the
system without learning the material and language
skills required for the grade level.

Cutting Down on Racism!

• Make the students aware that all students are
  equal in my classroom.
• Treat all students equal
• Help students to understand other cultures.

Becoming Aware

• To be aware of my students differences I can ask
  the students to fill out an index card with were
  they are from and something about themselves.
• Since I am a Social Science major it should be
  very easy for me to find out what kinds of
  customs and beliefs my students have knowing
  where they are from.
