2
Goal
  • As a brand new school in only our second year, we
wanted to create an environment where kids come
first. In order to accomplish this, we needed
to establish a proactive school wide plan that
    unified the staff.

3
Rationale
  • We were a staff from many different schools and
backgrounds starting up a new school.
  • We needed to establish norms and expectations to
maintain an environment where kids come first.
  • Since we are new to this program, every area of
our school needed work, but the playground and
cafeteria provided the most interesting data.

4
Data Indicators
  • As a first year school, most of our data and
input came from our team and other staff members
    observations.
  • We are now using our surveys, O.D.R.s,
Principals 200 Club, and Paws-itive Praise
tickets to govern and direct our team meetings.
This data guides our decisions for future
    implementation and focus.

5
Trends and changes in data indicators
  • We didnt have any data to begin with because we
    were a brand new school.
  • We are now able to compare our first couple of
    months and make necessary adjustments.
  • We have learned during this implementation
process the importance of collecting and
organizing data in an orderly and timely manner.

6
Implementation
  • Surveys given to students, staff, and parents of
    community.
  • UBI Team developed a Matrix that was then passed
on to staff members for input and approval.
  • Training of staff and students commenced using
the videos we created showing appropriate and
    inappropriate behavior.
  • Incentives for teachers were introduced to help
teachers buy into the program and get involved in
getting positive reinforcements out to the
    students.
  • Data was collected and changes were made to
    improve program.
  • Principals 200 Club was introduced for student
    incentives.

7
Staff Training
  • Entire staff at Butterfield Canyon was pulled
together for a two hour training session.
  • Small groups of staff members created skits for
    each area of our Matrix.

Final data
  • Data as of April 16, 2008.
  • As you can see, we do not have a lot of data thus
far, but we have begun to collect it and use it
regularly in our meetings and planning sessions.
  • We have been able to maintain well over the 41
    ratio each month thus far.

10
Plans for adjustment
  • Using the data to address specific problem areas
    in our school.
  • Using data to address where most Paws-itive
Praise tickets are given, and begin to spread the
    wealth into problem areas.
  • Implementing Think Time.
  • Using this years experience and data to drive
    our classroom implementation.
  • Continuing the ongoing training of new staff
members to maintain the unified environment we
    have created.

11
Discussion
  • We are very pleased with what we have been able
to accomplish, but are very surprised at the
amount of time and energy that was needed to get
    this program up and running.
  • Now that we are up and running it is easy to make
    minor, data driven adjustments.
  • The students and staff members love the
consistency that has been established here. They
know what is expected no matter where they are,
    or who they are with.
  • Despite the time and energy required, it is the
best thing we could have done for our students
    and staff.
