  • With stake holder input, developed and
    established environmental information exchange
    master plan
  • Procured computer/networking hardware/software to
    establish network node infrastructure in the
    Navajo Nation IT Department
  • Adopted data standard and Quality Assurance plan
  • 4. Developed Exchange Network website

  • Developed format for Trading Partnership
    Agreement with U.S. EPA
  • Selected two official data flow for the
    Implementation Project
  • Conducted pilot data exchange with U.S. EPAs CDX
    with limited FRS data

Implementation Project Accomplishments
  • Developed data format for Facility Registration
    System (FRS) using XML schema and populated
    database with facility data for all major air
    emission facilities (Title V sources under Clean
    Air Act) on the Navajo Nation
  • Successfully submitted FRS data exchange with
    U.S. EPAs CDX
  • FRS data for public water systems and hopefully
    underground injection wells (UIC) will be
    submitted to U.S. EPAs CDX through the node in
    May 2007

  • Developed data format for National Emission
    Inventory (NEI) and is currently populating
    database with NEI data
  • NEI Data exchange is scheduled for May 2007

Current Status
  • Third Tribe in the Nation to achieve data
    exchange status with USEPA
  • Trying to become the first tribe in the Nation to
    submit NEI data

Future Plans
  • Within next 2 years, Navajo Nation intends to
  • implement 4 additional official data flows
    depending on
  • the availability of a grant
  • E-DMR
  • SDWIS
  • WQX
  • UIC
  • ICIS-NPDES

Other Uses of the Node
  • Navajo Nation is already investing general funds
    to develop and implement the following
    e-government initiatives
  • Navajo Nation EPA Intranet
  • E-government application to streamline the
    approval processes for grant acceptance, contract
    and other procurement, and various other
    documents requiring Navajo Nation Presidents
    signature
  • SWP and wetlands data flow
  • RCRAInfo, AQS and TRI data flows by other
    departments under Navajo Nation EPA, if they can
    be convinced of the benefits
