Title: Roman House for Sale
1Roman House for Sale
2 A Rich Roman House Was Planned Out Like This
3One Picture of a Roman House
4Another Picture of a House
5Reasons
- This house is great and unlike most houses this
one is very well protected. This house is a
house. NOT an APARTMENT!!!!! Apartments were
cheap, efficient, and nowhere near being safe
dwellings. They had wooden frames filled with
rubble and mortar. In spite of the fact that
remains of several apartments have survived to
modern times, this building material was
unstable, prone to collapse, and fires were
easily caused in this so-called apartment. - So you are getting a good deal!
6Colonnaded Garden
Now we will take a good look at the whole entire
house. And I will explain mostly anything.
Bedroom
Formal Entrance Hall
Garden Room
Dining Room
Kitchen
Bathroom/ pluming
Office
Shop
Entrance Hall
7Formal Entrance Hall
The Formal Entrance Hall is one of our larger
and roomier rooms. This room is lighted by the
opening in the roof. It is usually used for
guests to wait in, and is first approached when
touring a house. You also would also be able to
use this room for family occasions and such. On
either sides of this room are small rooms which
you could use for several purposes. Beyond these
small rooms the formal entrance hall has a
opening which leads to 2 wings. This room also
has a great amount of pictures on the walls.
Another thing that added to the beauty was the
rain water pool which collected all the rain
water when it fell through the roof.
8Bedroom
This room was also used for many purposes. One
way this room was used was as a bedroom for
sleeping. But the room can also be referred to as
small rooms which are located off the Formal
Entrance Hall . These rooms could be used for
private meetings, libraries, ect. The bedroom is
a simply decorated room. All that is meant for
the bedroom purpose, is to have a small chest
and a sleeping couch.
9Colonnaded Garden
This is the Colonnaded Garden. It is one of the
beautiful rooms of this villa. This room, as you
can see, is inside and will still grow. The roof
is around the garden and there are columns
surrounding the garden. the walls are also part
of the beauty because of all the great paintings.
Sometimes this garden is made for the gods but it
could be your choice if you get this house. This
garden could easily have a fountain installed,
and/or fishpond. But you could have shrubs,
flowers, benches, and sculptures.
10Kitchen
The kitchen was one of the smaller, darker, rooms
in the house. The kitchen doesnt get a lot of
fresh air so keep this in mind, because you might
want to put a window in or maybe even a skylight.
And if you hire slaves they would probably cook
for you so that you wouldnt have to worry about
cooking, or about the room beginning hot and
smoky. Baking was done in ovens the tops were
utilized to keep dishes warm. Embers from the
oven could be placed below metal braziers for a
form of stove-top cooking.
11Dining Room
There was usually a piece of furniture called
the lectus, otherwise known as a couch is in this
room. A lectus was an all-purpose piece of
furniture. Usually the lectus is made of wood
with bronze trim the open bottom was
crisscrossed with leather straps, which supported
stuffed cushions. Different sizes and shapes of
lecti (couches) were used for sleeping, talking,
and dining. Another piece of furniture that is
found in this room is a chair with a back, this
was considered suitable only for women or old
men. Dining couches were fairly wide, for each
couch held three people, who reclined on their
left side resting on large cushions while slaves
served them multi-course meals.
12Bathroom/ plumbing
- Plumbing The aqueducts supplied water to the
town, and water is flowing continuously through a
pipe that is led to this house for the water
supply. You are very lucky because this house
does have plumbing and not too many houses do.
This is because it is very expensive to install,
but lucky for you it has already been installed.
The heat comes from a volcanos to the house
through a pipe. This is also very lucky to have. - The Roman Bath A bathroom of the wealthy family
is a room with a pool of water filling up the
entire floor, like a small swimming pool. But
sadly this bathroom doesnt have one of these,
although you could install one for a fancier look
to the house. But for now all that is in this
room is a sink and toilet.
13Garden Room
The Garden room was a large, elegant room usually
located off the garden. It was used for formal
entertainments and fancy dinner parties. The wall
paintings in this room often continue the garden
theme.
14Office
Directly behind The Formal Entrance Hall was a
room open on two sides, though both sides could
be closed with curtains or folding doors. This
house is designed so that anyone standing in the
door frame can see straight through the Formal
Entrance Hall and the study to the colonnaded
garden in the back of the house -- a very
impressive setup. In this room the family records
are stored. As you can see the office often had
an attractive mosaic and wall paintings.
15Entrance Hall
The entrance hall of a Roman house is quite close
to the street and is relatively plain. Entering
through the front door, one saw a long, narrow
hallway leading from the front door into the
Formal Entrance Hall. The rooms on either side
have separate doorways opening into the street
and do not communicate with the rest of the
house. The floor of this entrance hall has
mosaics with a message for the visitor. And this
one is Greetings. But you can always change
this to one saying Beware of dog.
16Shop
You will be able to rent out the two front rooms
of this house as shops. These rooms have separate
doors that open onto the street and do not
connect with the rest of the house in any way.
The actual door of the house opens into a long
corridor that leads into the Formal Entrance
Hall. The length of the hallway and the shops on
either side serve as a buffer from the noise and
smells of the street.
