The Problem
  • Create a cradle of springs to minimize the
    distorting effect of gravity on the mirror
  • Maximum distortion 10 nm or 1e-8 m
  • Correlates to 5 arc-second resolution
  • Springs must compress springs by an average which
    is orders of magnitude greater than combined
    irregularity
