4Status of detector fabrication
Unit module fabrication completed (Dec.
2006) Super-module assembly 38 completed, 10
remaining (to be completed by 15 April)
Quality assurance Gas leak tests all 38
done HV tests 22 completed (4 modules at CERN,
brought during beam test in Nov. 2006)

8Observations of HV tests
- Leakage current goes on decreasing with time.
- Spark is random and goes on decreasing with time.
- Leakage current and spark rate is sensitive to
humidity. - Average numbers of faulty cells is 10 to 12 in a
module.
Average no. of sparks measured for 3 hours of
interval. Voltage applied -1600V
9High Voltage tests cut channels
One chamber so far had to be opened and
repaired Typically no. of cut channels lt 1 so
far Leakage current in tested chambers 0.1-0.4
µA
10Detectors in beam tests at PS, SPS(November 2006)
- Two back-to-back modules (veto-preshower
configuration) used - Readout using CROCUS (one set FRT/CRT provided by
Orsay) for the first time - HV control using DCS
- Experience with EASY system of CAEN for LV supply
- At SPS, count rate increased upto radiation alarm
level, spark rate and leakage current monitored,
no visible deterioration - Data analysis in progress
11PMD Electronics, Readout
Scheme very similar to Muon Tracking
- Backplane PCB (one for each module)
- Provides connection from detector to FEE boards
thru a cutout and flexible kapton cables - Has bus tracks for readout
- Maximum number of FEE boards in a row 12, 24
(for two types of SMs) - Connectors for Translator Boards, Bridge Boards,
and FEE boards - Power planes for entire module
12Status of electronics/readout
FEE boards Required 3500 after a lot of
administrative hurdle, order for assembly
released, components delivered to the assembly
unit, trial run to start in two weeks, delivery
in full by end-May 2007. Tests/calibration by
end-Aug. 2007 300 boards assembled in lab (One
module needs 72 boards) Translator Boards/Bridge
Boards/Backplane All pieces wired and
tested General tests of FEE boards,
chains Using the prototype CROCUS from
Orsay, valuable experience, greatly helped in
debugging chains on backplanes, TB, BB
etc. Three set of testing setup ready (one with
CROCUS, two with PCI card of Cagliari)
13CROCUS mass production
- Procurement through Orsay only CRT, and trigger
electronics (FFT and FTD) boards - These are now ready at Orsay
- FRT boards (30 no.) to be wired in India, Orsay
provided all the technical literature, material
procurement completed, first prototype wiring in
progress, to be tested at Orsay in April/May. - CROCUS mechanics ordered, already arrived at
CERN. - Concern FRT boards, to be mass produced only
after validation of the prototype, no test
facility in India. - Hope to have all the boards by Sept. 2007
14DCS status
- Detector FSM Basic version existed in PVSS 3.1
and tested during test beam, further development
being done after shifting to PVSS 3.6 - Low Voltage hardware just arriving,
- two 3025B modules delivered by CAEN
- Tested in the lab with PVSS and framework
- Just started work on the LV FSM
- High Voltage (hardware already at CERN)
- PVSS exists and tested with hardware
- Panels tested at test beam time in October
- Configuration is being done
- FSM basic version tested
- Final version to be finalized by April end and
tested with hardware - Temp Monitoring Implemented in PVSS 3.1
- Crate Control We shall use the standard tool
developed by Alice Controls Coordination
Committee - Project to be completed by July.
15Auxiliaries
Gas distribution system done by CERN gas group,
ready for commissioning LV Supply all
