4Biogas from a Göteborg perspective
Fulfilling our vision Göteborg Energi shall
actively contribute to the development of a
sustainable Göteborg
5Biogas vision of Göteborg Energi AB
- The target is to successively
- replace natural gas with biogas
6Green gas principle
Huge synergy effects arise when distributing
biogas in the natural gas grid
7Advantages of biogas in the natural gas grid
- Market potential is growing.
- More customers have the opportunity to replace
other fuels with biogas. This reduces pollution. - The surplus of biogas produced during the summer
can be pumped into the natural gas grid instead
of being burnt off. - The reliability of the biogas supply improves by
connecting the biogas grid
8Project Biogas Arendal
- Fermentation of sludge from wastewater treatment
plant - Removal of CO2 increases calorific value from 6
kWh/Nm3 to 11 kWh/Nm3 - The plant is in operation since January 2007
- Production of biogas 50 - 60 GWh/year
9GoBiGas Gothenburg Biomass Gasification Project
10Purpose and objective of GoBiGas
- The purpose of the project is to demonstrate the
possibilities of the gasification technology on a
commercial scale, and to build a gasification
unit that produces renewable and CO2-neutral
natural gas. The objective of this is to take a
significant step towards Göteborg Energi ABs
long-term target to replace the natural gas in
our own plants and meet our customers demand for
renewable gas.
11The GoBiGas Project
- Thermo-gasification of biomass and production of
bio-methane - Commercial scale approximately 100 MW gas
- Production of high-calorific gas by methanation
for distribution on the gas grid - Also possible to use as a CHP-fuel in the gas
turbines of Rya - Planned to be in operation by 2012

17Current activities in GoBiGas
- The board of Göteborg Energi AB in February 2007
decided to support the GoBiGas project at least
until decision of preliminary investment summer
2008. - Discussions with three suppliers of equipment
about different technical solutions. - Permits
- Supply of biomass
- Financing of investment
