TEXT John 1416-17
  • The teaching regarding the Holy Spirit and His
work is an area of great confusion in
    Christendom. The beliefs are

Pentecostal View
  • The Baptism of the Holy Ghost and fire (Matt
    311) is a gift from God, as promised by the Lord
Jesus and is received subsequent to the new birth
    (John 1416-17 Act 18 24,38-39) accompanied
by speaking in other tongues as the initial
physical sign and evidence (Acts 24)
  • Sanctification is the process of becoming holy,
or Christlike. Nazarenes believe that this
process begins at conversion and that a point can
be reached, called entire sanctification, when
divine love expels all disposition to sin.

  • C. Divine healing is provided for all in the
    atonement (Isaiah 535) (Pentecostal and
    Christian and Missionary Alliance)
  • D. Healing is for the physical ills of the human
body. It is provided for in the atonement of
Christ and is available to all who truly believe
    (Mark 1618 James 514-15)

II. Roman Catholic
  • The task of interpreting the Word of God
authentically has been entrusted solely to the
Magisterium of the Church, that is, to the Pope
and to the bishops in communion with him.

III. Foothill Bible Church
  • The Holy Spirit is given to all believers at the
time of conversion (Ephesians 113 Romans 89
55 2 Cor 121-22) and there is no outward
    authentication required (Acts 837-39 917-19)
  • The ministry and purpose of the Holy Spirit is to
teach and illuminate the truth of Scripture to
believers and to empower them to live for God
(John 1612-15 Acts 18) and He does not depart
    (John 1416)

  • C. Though it is not Gods purpose for Christians
to sin, it is possible and God has made provision
    for it (1 John 19-22)
  • D. We will not be delivered from our sin nature
until we are delivered from this mortal body
    (Romans 718ff 1 Corinthians 1553-57)
  • E. God may heal but He does not promise freedom
    from illness (James 514-16 1 Cor 1130 2 Cor
    129) and He does it in answer to prayer but no
longer on command as in apostolic days (see
    Acts 36)
