Title: A Second Zero Suppression Study with the Fast MC

1
A Second Zero Suppression Studywith the Fast MC
  • John Krane
  • Iowa State University

DØ CTF Mini-Workshop 7 October, 2002

Updated Method
Should address many concerns from last week
10-20 Noisy 20 Noisy
10-20 Good 20 Good
  • Study 10-20 GeV jets, and 20 GeV jets
  • Data is ZSP1s special runs
  • Study jets vs total Ncells
  • Few cells noisy jets
  • 400 cells good jets (in this sample)
  • Select sample to simulate (energy and noisy/good)
  • Generate layer energies from histos
  • Get Efrac for successive cells in lyr from hist
  • Stop when SEfrac gt100.0
  • Add noise, then suppress with different thresholds

3
Not yet implemented
  • Noise from actual calib (Roberts histos)
  • Studies of same in MC
  • For reasons not related to ZSP,I dont have
updated results from the new methodology

4
Ncells vs Total Jet Energy
  • Assumes 0.7 cone
  • Jet ET gt 10 GeV yet S cell ET lt10many merged
    jets

  • 1.5 s zsp
  • 2.5 s zsp
  • 1.5 in low-noise layers (2,3,4,5,6,7)and 2.5
    elsewhere
  • 1.5 in low-occupancy layers (12,13,15)and 2.5
    elsewhere

Summary
  • Reworking Fast ZSP Monte Carlo
  • Improvements will include
  • Can improve noise sim with direct histograms
  • Different h ranges
  • Still need suggestions for ZSP schemes
  • Tried two variable-s schemes (suppress noisy
    layers, suppress high-occupancy layers)
  • Decide what variables to optimize (How should I
    simulate the MET? Systematic noise?)
