Vision (dream, challenge) The BUN Environment
Family envisions a Balkan region in which
citizens use, share and manage their
environmental resources in a sustainable manner
a region in which all sectors of society,
particularly the poor, enjoy the benefits of
basic environmental systems and services, as
healthy ecosystems and clean waters. In this
region, the use and protection of water and
environmental resources is decided within the
framework of integrated resources management,
taking into account the principles of equitable
distribution and public participation.

Mission Statement The BUN Environment Family
aims in developing demand-driven policies and in
generating, sharing and transferring knowledge -
through education, training and capacity building
- that will empower people and institutions in
all Balkan countries to manage their water and
environmental resources.

Key Functions Policy development, debate and
dialogue, networking, education, training,
research, assessment, capacity building.

Information and Knowledge Base - Innovative approaches
- Demand-responsiveness functions and actions will
be oriented to the solution of problems faced by
countries in transition.
