Chalmers University of Technology
  • All newcomers get a 1h lecture on SD during their
    first week.
  • A minimum of five weeks in sustainable
    development for Bachelors in Engineering sciences
    and Architects.
  • Several elective courses, and 5/44 master
    programmes

The compulsory courses
  • From the mid 80ies an environmental course is
    required, now the requirement is in environment
    and SD
  • Development of a tentative common core content in
    the courses.
  • The faculty responsible for the SD courses meet
    once or twice a year to discuss common issues

ESD-project at Chalmers
  • Reform project during 2006-2009, connected to a
    UNESCO-chair (John Holmberg) in Education for
    Sustainable Development, ESD.

ESD Nine reform lines
  • The task is to evolve an organisation that
    handles ESD at Chalmers, resulting in a
    suggestion that
  • Guarantees and continuously enhances quality in
    Chalmers basic courses in SD.
  • Guarantees and continuously enhances quality of
    SD content in other courses.
  • Gives effective support to those who order SD
    courses.
  • Gives effective support to students when choosing
    SD courses.
  • Gives effective internal and external information
    about ESD.
  • Gives effective cooperation with internal and
    external (foremost Göteborg University)
    stakeholders within ESD.
  • Gives a good meeting place for Students and for
    teachers with interest in the area.
  • Supports further education of non-teaching
    personnel within the SD area.
  • Supports the development of a campus reflecting
    Chalmers initiative for SD.

  • Högskolorna skall i sin verksamhet främja en
    hållbar utveckling som innebär att nuvarande och
    kommande generationer tillförsäkras en hälsosam
    och god miljö, ekonomisk och social välfärd och
    rättvisa.
