Whats the problem

• Peer auto-restart causes
• Peer to go up/down rapidly
• Shakes the infrastructure
• Cause
• Bad prefix resent by peer
• Causes local peer to come up, receive back junk,
  and go back down
• Issue Was in draft-14 of BGP draft, pulled to
  separate document

Types of Idle Hold Down Timers

• 3 types of Timers
• Exponential damping (like route flap damping)
• Step-wise damping
• No damping

• Mechanisms exist in FSM
• Connect-Retry count
• Idle Hold Timer
• Perform persistent peer oscillation damping
  action
• Sub-state within Idle state to
• Hold down while Idle Hold timer is running
• Allow manual configuration to take out of state
