handling, outlining, drawing, graphing, clipart
and so on. PowerPoint can produce Slides,
Handouts, Speaker's Notes and Outlines.

  • 15 absences results in no credit.
  • Every 3 tardies counts as an absence.
  • Detention is assigned for every tardy after the
    third one.

Presentation
  • A presentation is a file that contains a related
    series of slides.
  • These slides are then output on screen, one at a
    time, used to create overhead transparencies in
    color or black and white, or used to create 35 mm
    photographic slides.

Slides
  • A slide is the basic building block of a
    presentation. Its made up of several elements
    these elements can be text, images, sound, or
    other slides.

Objects
  • Objects are the basic building blocks of a
    slide. They are individual items that are placed
    on a slide template. In most cases, you'll be
    working with text objects and image objects.

Starting Microsoft PowerPoint

Selecting a Presentation Type
  • The first screen in PowerPoint will show 3
    options
  • AutoContent wizard
  • Template
  • Blank presentation

This PowerPoint dialogue box prompts you to
select the type of presentation you would like to
create.

Presentation Open Existing Presentation

AutoContent Wizard Provides ideas and an
organization for the presentation. Displays Cue
Cards (help) which gives tips on editing the
slides.
Template Prompts you to select a design and
color scheme for the presentation. Then you
select an autolayout e.g. title page, bullet
list, etc.

Blank Presentation Prompts you to select an
autolayout format for the slides. Open an
Existing Presentation Allows you to open a
previously Saved presentation file.

Creating Your New Presentation
  • Click on Blank
  • Presentation.
  • 2. Click on OK.
  • This will display AutoLayout

Using Auto-layout
AutoLayout contains 24 pre-formatted layout
designs that are set-up to center text, make a
bulleted list, and add clip art and charts. You
can mix AutoLayout slides with individually
designed slides.

Using Auto-content to Create a Title Slide
  • Click on the Title Only Slide. 2. Click on OK.

Creating the Title Slide
Click inside the dotted line border. The
instruction will disappear and the cursor will
flash in the center of the box. This box is
called a text block. Type in your title.

Go to tool bar along top of screen.
Click on Insert
Click on Common Tasks
Click on New Slide

1. When you click on the New Slide icon, the New
Slide Dialogue box appears. Click on Title with
subtitle.

1. Click anywhere inside the title box
block. Type a title of your choice.
2. Click inside the subtitle box and type a
subtitle. This is a good place for your name.

1. Click on the Bulleted List slide.
2. Click on OK.

4. Click on the Title Block and type a title.
5. Click anywhere inside the bulleted text block
and type some text. 6. Press Enter, another
bullet will appear.

Design Tips for Bullet Slides
  • Use six or fewer topics per slide
  • Use six to eight words per topic
  • Use parallel phrasing
  • Avoid ALL CAPS

Using The Spell Checker
1. Click on the Tools on the top menu bar
2. Click on the Spelling... The Spell Checker
dialogue box will appear.

1. Click on File on top menu bar.
2. Click on Save As

select destination
5. Click on Save

1. Click on Format on the top Menu.
2. Select Apply Design

3. Choose a template from the list.

Insert Clip Art
  • Double click on the small clown at the bottom of
    your screen or insert at top menu
  • Click on the pictures folder in window
  • Scroll, click on a category, then click on the
    picture you want.
  • Click on the top button on the insert tool bar
  • Go back to slide and drag it around.

Inserting a Regular Picture
  • Go to insert on top menu
  • Drag down to picture and over to file
  • Find your picture Folder
  • Click on the insert button when the window
    appears
  • Its there!

Slide Sorter View
1. Click on View on the top Menu bar.
2. Click on Slide Sorter.

Click on a Slide to Select it. You can now carry
out any of these operations on the selected
slide 1. drag and drop it in a new
position. 2. Copy and Paste it to a new
location. 3. Delete it by pressing Delete key.

Finishing your slide show
  • 1. Go to top tool bar. Click on slide show.
  • 2. Click on view show.
  • 3. You can also add transitions and
    animations on this screen.

Exercise
  • Create a presentation consisting of the following
    slides
  • A Title Slide
  • A Slide with Title and Subtitle
  • A Bulleted List
  • A Slide with clip art, pictures, or WordArt.
  • Enter your text in each slide and Spell Check the
    text.
  • Save your presentation.
  • Select and Apply a Design template to your
    presentation.
  • Use Slide Sorter View to change the order of
    slides.
  • Play with other features, well help!
