COLDS FLU
3
Because colds and flu share many common symptoms
such as stuffy nose, sneezing, coughing, fatigue,
etc. it can be sometimes difficult to distinguish
between the two.
4
The Major Differences to Look For
  • A cold usually comes on slowly with mild
fatigue, slight aches and pains, and is rarely
    accompanied by fever and headaches.
  • The fIu usually comes on suddenly with a high
fever lasting 3-4 days, headaches, and extreme
exhaustion that is early and pronounced.

5
The Best Ways to Prevent Colds and Flu
  • Wash often use soap and warm water, washing for
at least 20 secondsOR use an alcohol-based hand
    sanitizer
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth to keep
from transferring germs into your body
  • Keep your immune system healthy with proper rest,
    exercise and nutrition
  • Protect others by covering your mouth and nose
    whenever you cough or sneeze
  • Get a flu shot

6
Sometimes a cold or the flu can result in
secondary infections that require medical
treatment.
7
Be sure to watch for these symptoms that could
develop
  • Difficultly breathing and/or chest pain
  • Persistent fever, coughing, congestion, or
    headaches
  • Vomiting
  • Painful swallowing

8
Additionally, avoid smoking if you have a cold
or the flu, as it increases the likelihood of
secondary infections and prolongs the upper
respiratory condition.
