2COLDS FLU
3Because colds and flu share many common symptoms
such as stuffy nose, sneezing, coughing, fatigue,
etc. it can be sometimes difficult to distinguish
between the two.
4The Major Differences to Look For
- A cold usually comes on slowly with mild
fatigue, slight aches and pains, and is rarely
accompanied by fever and headaches.
- The fIu usually comes on suddenly with a high
fever lasting 3-4 days, headaches, and extreme
exhaustion that is early and pronounced.
5The Best Ways to Prevent Colds and Flu
- Wash often use soap and warm water, washing for
at least 20 secondsOR use an alcohol-based hand
sanitizer - Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth to keep
from transferring germs into your body - Keep your immune system healthy with proper rest,
exercise and nutrition - Protect others by covering your mouth and nose
whenever you cough or sneeze - Get a flu shot
6Sometimes a cold or the flu can result in
secondary infections that require medical
treatment.
7Be sure to watch for these symptoms that could
develop
- Difficultly breathing and/or chest pain
- Persistent fever, coughing, congestion, or
headaches - Vomiting
- Painful swallowing
8Additionally, avoid smoking if you have a cold
or the flu, as it increases the likelihood of
secondary infections and prolongs the upper
respiratory condition.
