• MacEwan is Albertas largest transfer college.
  Our transfer students had limited positions to
  transfer to for some programs such as Commerce
  and Nursing.
• Some degrees for our diploma graduates were not
  offered in Alberta so students pursuing further
  studies needed to leave the province. Some
  didnt come back (CYC, Music).
• Credential Creep Legislation creating degree
  requirement for entry in some fields (Nursing).

  but also collaborate for the students for
  graduate outcome

  likelihood that students will attend more than
  one institution.
• We are also an urban center and we attract
  students from colleges in smaller centers and
  from other post-secondary institutions around the
  province.

• The designation of staff to transfer
  responsibilities allows for the acceleration of
  expertise in the processes and practices of
  transfer for CRM (Customer Relationship
  Management) and SEM (Strategic Enrolment
  Management) purposes.
• Influence on the issues of transfer credit
  assignments and related workflow related workflow
  and deliver better results in CRM and SEM.

Collaboration - Best practices in planning

• Curriculum development and delivery
• Some institutions have formally required a
  reference to transfer in course and program
  proposals to avoid duplication of effort and
  outcome and to encourage a more calculated
  approach to bridging and laddering for both
  internal and external programs.
• Transfer as part of course and program design
  can deliver the best outcome at the highest
  level.
• This collaboration can take place both
  internally, with other institutions as partners,
  or both.
• Information storage and access for planning
  community can accelerate the process and keep
  everyone on the same page.

• Organize capture of all transfer credit into
  reference tool that can accommodate the highest
  level of information for the largest audience
  possible

Current MacEwan toolkit

• ACAT (Alberta Council on Admissions and
  Transfer)
• On-line and current information for ALBERTA
  transfer credit. The ACAT system is currently in
  re-development.
• Our current system is Datatel Colleague. It was
  put into place _at_ 10 years ago and not implemented
  with plans for full degrees or transfer as a
  receiver. Transfer decisions or tables do not
  exist in the system and are not planned for
  development.
• SEP (Student Evaluation Plan) system can be
  updated with MacEwan transfer credit, which
  includes program specific rules for completion.
• The launch of the project for Oracle
  implementation is June 26.
• ITS resources will be limited to none over the
  implementation period.

• Big picture we are facing a period of high
  volume in transfer credit we need good
  information and we need to avoid transfer
  fatigue.
• What do we need to support all other transfer
  credit traffic non-ALBERTA, credit review in
  process, credit with other provinces, credit
  internal to institution, and information about
  reviews for credit that did not result in
  transfer?
• What can we use as a reference for relationships
  with other institutions?

  accommodate Alberta transfer credit process
• December 08 reworked the scope to accommodate
  MacEwan current state in student system
  information met with ITS for support, security,
  and sustainability
• January 09 - consult with community
• February 09 update the input, finalize setup
  with ITS, including templates for data collection
• February/March 09 ACAT
• March 09 began documentation, testing
• April 09 target release actual May
• May 09 revisit with community actual June and
  July
• General release target July/August

• Students who have timely information for
  registration in the right classes for the entire
  term with passing grades deliver the best
  outcomes for both students, staff, and taxpayers!
