• KHCS published 2003
• Achieved by FE 6th Form colleges
• 2006 improvements funding for 500 copy print
  run LSDA National CAMHS Support Service
• Healthy College Network established 2003
• KHCS Website
• 2 National Healthy College conferences 2007
  2008 (LSC)
• Workshops including LSDA Northern Ireland Omagh,
  AoC, NAMSS

National FE Framework

• Announced July 2008 by FE Minister Bill Rammell
• National Healthy Schools team
• DH, DCSF funded
• 2009 KHCS still being requested as model by
  colleges

Challenges

• Lack of funding
• Product (KHCS) but no resources for support,
  accreditation promotion
• Expectation of network members
• Doing the day job
• Other initiatives e.g. Choosing Health delayed
  national funding

Overcoming challenges

• Support from Huddersfield New College Kirklees
  PCT
• Support from network members aware of realities
  for learners on the ground, key people to DO
  things
• Shared load eg hospitality for meetings
• Marketing, publicity, articles, visits
• Passion, determination, persistence!

Key Learning

• Huge amounts can be achieved with little funding
• KHCS Softening exercise which promoted the idea
  eventually taken forward
• Healthy College work only the beginning
• Knowing when to let go..
