Meeting Objectives

• to review lessons learned from pandemic response
  and determine appropriate measures for mitigating
  the impact of the pandemic influenza (H1N1) 2009
• to review the laboratory and epidemiological
  capacities and practices on seasonal and pandemic
  influenza surveillance to determine the way
  forward
• to update the knowledge on research and
  development of the pandemic influenza (H1N1)
  2009, influenza A(H5N1) and seasonal influenza
  viruses
• to discuss and identify the need and mechanism
  for sharing the information of seasonal and
  pandemic influenza surveillance among countries
  in the Asia Pacific

Expected Outcomes

• Understand the success, challenge, and lesson
  learnt from pandemic surveillance and response
• Determine the surveillance strategies and areas
  for strengthening, particularly NICs
  preparedness
• Determine possible public health measures to
  mitigate the impact of the pandemic
• Identify the priority areas of action
