CERTIFIED TRAFFIC GUIDELINES
  • The basic methodologies for developing certified
    design traffic are NOT changing.
  • However, there are continuous improvements to the
    process, such as the development of this manual
    and maintaining electronic copies of all
    certified design traffic.

  • A Manual of Procedures
  • A FAQ added to the Modeling Forecasting
    website
  • A Training Course
  • Revised Customer Agreements with the District
    Offices

  • The Certified Traffic Manual will be a reference
    guide for
  • Persons requesting certified traffic
  • Persons preparing traffic for certification.
  • Persons using certified traffic.

  • Focus on design designations, and will also
    include
  • OTDMUGs Use of Models for Project Traffic
    Forecasting.
  • turning movement forecasting techniques
  • model post-processing techniques
  • standards for traffic counts
  • references to other data sources, such as the
    Access Management Manual, ODOT Traffic Monitoring
    Reports (seasonal factors, etc.)

Frequently Asked Questions
  • A quick reference guide regarding the certified
    traffic process.
  • Will include definitions of common design factors
    (K, D, T24, TD, 8th highest hour)
  • Will include references to other needed resources
    (traffic count data, NCHRP 255, etc.)

Training Course
  • Similar to Traffic Academy Courses
  • 4-8 hours in duration
  • Focus on design designations, not complex
    projects although these will be mentioned for
    comparison purposes.
  • Course materials will include examples of
    worksheets used to prepare certified traffic.
  • Pilot course expected by June 2007 (Targeting
    District Staff and Consultants)

Update Customer Agreements
  • Most agreements havent been updated for 7-8
    years.
  • Allow for electronic correspondence, instead of
    hard copies.
  • Electronic copies of any traffic not prepared by
    OTS (i.e., if consultant prepared traffic for
    certification)

  • from 60 calendar days.
  • Include traffic count standards
  • District suggestions for improvement to the
    process
