Title: Green Living Movement

1
Green Living Movement
  • Sustainable Development
  • Through Community Participation

2
What is GLM?
  • A Zambian non-governmental organisation (NGO)
    working in
  • Environmental awareness
  • Sustainable agriculture
  • Food and Income security
  • Community Capacity building
  • Campaign, Advocacy and Lobbying
  • Infrastructure development
  • Gender and HIV/AIDS awareness

3
How did it all begin?
  • A group of journalists were concerned about the
lack of environmental awareness and its linkage
    to poverty in Zambia.
  • In 1997 The Green House Foundation (GHF) was
    founded to address this issue.
  • Three years later the GHF disbanded as it could
not meet its objectives. The surviving two
members of the GHF were part of the six
    environment and development enthusiasts who
founded the Green Living Movement (GLM).
  • The GLM was registered as a Non Governmental
    Organisation in May 2000.

4
  • VISION

    poverty free society.

    friendly interventions that sustain productivity

    local communities
  • National and local policies and practices that
are just and effectively respond to the plight of
    the poor.
  • Documentation of indigenous knowledge and local
    experiences in environmental management and
    social development.

6
What does GLM keep in mind?
  • The guiding philosophy
  • Unless you enter the den, you can not get the
cubs. Go into the community, live humbly with the
people as one of them, learn from them, plan with
them, start with what they know and build on what
    they have.
  • Dr James Yen
