  • Conséquences
  • avoid stripping between PS and SPS when possible,
  • Highest charge state as soon as possible in the
    chain(cooling time decreased but frev increased
    at extraction),
  • Maximum DQ in the low energy machine where
    special measures can be taken (shaping density,
    double harmonic RF)
  • Re-enforce the choice of the max transfer Br from
    LEIR to PS and PS to SPS
  • Re-enforce the choice of the cavity type allowing
    large frequency swing

  • There is a double RF system in the LHC
  • Sequencing system will allow PPM(Pulse to Pulse
    Modulation)

Ions-Ions in LHC
  • Linac3 can do the ions with some preparation,
  • Whatever are the ions, we think that we are
    modifying the LEIR machine in such a way that
    these ions are possible.
  • But the number of ions per bunch is limited to
    space charge at low energyfurther studies are
    needed.
  • But the LEIR cycle can be longer(cooling time
    prop. to Z2/A)

  • Seems not to be a priority, alt least not before
    201x.
  • In any cases, a second sourceRFQ is needed in
    Linac3
  • PPM operation (some minutes between the two ion
    beam)

CONCLUSION
  • LEIR is modified in such a way that other ions
    can be done,
  • The real intensity limit has to be studied .
