DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSION (DSA) TO SEC ONE

Introduction
  • DSA-Sec Exercise introduced in 2004 as part of
    MOE's move towards creating more flexibility and
    options.
  • In 2005, the DSA Exercise had been extended to
    all independent schools, autonomous schools and
    schools with approved niche programmes.
  • To encourage more schools to recognise academic
    and non-academic achievements
  • Participating schools will decide on their own
    admission criteria.

The Student Perspective(before June)
  • Student obtains information on DSA-Sec schools
    through the following
  • Check the schools websites or
  • Call the schools or
  • Visit the schools
  • Student identifies which school(s) to apply.
  • Student checks with the secondary schools that
    she is interested in on application procedures

The Student Perspective(End Jun End Aug)
  • Student goes for selection tests/camps or
    interviews at the secondary school(s).
  • If testimonials from school(s) are required,
    student is to approach the subject / form
    teacher(s) concerned. School will send the
    testimonials direct to the secondary school(s) /
    institution(s) concerned.
  • Student receives outcome of application from the
    schools she has applied to by End August.

The Student Perspective(before Mid October)
  • All students who are given confirmed offers or
    put on a schools wait list will receive a DSA
    School Preference Form from her primary school.
  • The form will provide a consolidated list of
    schools that has given the student confirmed
    offers or placed her on their wait lists.

The Student Perspective(Mid October)
  • Student indicates her preference (max to 3
    schools) in the School Preference Form.
  • Student submits the form to her primary school.

The Student Perspective(late Nov)
  • Student collects the DSA allocation results from
    the primary school, together with the PSLE
    results.
  • Student eligible for a special programme may
    indicate interest in the programme in their
    Option Form during the Sec 1 Posting Exercise.
  • Student who is unsuccessful in the DSA-Sec
    Exercise will be notified of the outcome of the
    application. She should opt for a Secondary
    school in the Sec 1 Posting Exercise.

Results Release Stage
  • Successful DSA applicants will not be allowed
    to make any school selection in the centralised
    S1 Posting Exercise.

Application for Special Programmes
  • Some successful DSA applicants may be eligible
    for special programmes in the secondary schools.
  • Students who are offered EESIS will be informed.
  • Students who are eligible and wish to take up
    special programmes will have to submit their S1
    Option Form.

DSA Applicants who are in the Option Band
  • DSA applicant with PSLE aggregate within the
    Option Band, if allocated to a school which
    offers both courses, is allowed to select a
    course of his preference during the S1 Option.
