- QECO
- (Presentation January 9, 2009)
- QECO evaluates, for starting salary purposes, all
teachers, with the exception of male and female
teachers in English public secondary schools - QECO forms for early evaluation available at
presentations - Do not apply before QECO presentation.
- Early registration deadline is April 30. If early
deadline missed, student must wait until
confirmation of employment, or registered for
supply teaching - More information on QECO evaluations at

- Evaluates all male and females who will teach in
English public secondary schools - Application forms will be distributed at the
presentation. (Students must be at presentation

- Canada and the Centre for Education and
- Training (Peel District School Board) in
- 1998 to save teachers and School Boards
- time and money throughout the recruiting
- process. In February 2003, the software
- was shared with School Boards across
- Canada.

- By mail - Some boards have applications that can
be downloaded and completed ready for mailing - Note that some boards do not have formal
application forms - IMPORTANT for updated information, check the
Faculty of Education Placement Board (in the
Brown Lounge) on a regular basis
11 - The Placement Office (A201) sometimes receives
application information from boards in hard copy
form. - Information will be placed in the beige filing
cabinet outside Student Affairs and a sign posted
on the Graduate Placement Board will inform
students that applications are available.

- For boards in Ontario, go to http//sbinfo.edu.gov
.on.ca/brdall.asp. Students responsibility to
check sites for deadlines. - Until mid-January, most sites will only show
information about hiring for January. - However, a few larger boards, e.g. Toronto DSB,
may have some information in December.

- Cover Letter
- Formal application form (if the board uses one)
- Resumé (2 pages plus reference page)
- Copies of any practice teaching reports you
already have (both associate teacher and faculty) - Note send subsequent PT reports with a note
to add to your application

ie. Photocopy of transcript from your
undergraduate degree, photocopies of letters of
reference - If you are applying to a Catholic Board, you
should check the individual application
instruction for required additional
documentation.

- Read board instructions carefullySome will
require applications be sent directly to the
board office, and others will specify that
applications be sent to principals. -

- Hiring managers have searched names on Google
to perform background checks - MySpace and Facebook have also been used as a
screening tool - Employers who do online searches are looking for
reasons NOT to hire you
17Applications collected in Student Affairs (A201)
- A few boards may ask Student Affairs to
collect and forward applications by courier
(details will appear on the Graduate Placement
Board) - Place application pieces and documentation in an
envelope addressed to the board - Type or write neatly on the envelope
- Put your name and address in the top left hand
corner - Drop off at Student Affairs by the stated
deadline. NO EXCUSES

Requirements
- Ontario teachers are allowed to teach temporarily
in all Canadian Provinces - Each province has different requirements for
permanent certification - Check the Ministries of Education website at
http//www.destineducation.ca/intstdnt/annex-c8_e.
htm - Availability of positions, as in Ontario, will
vary from year to year and province to province.

- Independent schools are an alternative to
teaching in the traditional school setting.
Representatives will be at the fair on January
