JM Barries Life
  • James Matthew Barrie was born May 9th 1860
  • He went to Dumfries Academy and the University of
    Edinburgh.
  • He wrote Peter Pan the play in 1904.
  • He wrote the book Peter and Wendy in 1911. The
name later changed to Peter Pan.

3
The real Peter Pan
  • Barrie based his story Peter Pan on the
adventures he had with 5 young boys sons of his
    acquaintance Sylvia Llewelyn-Davies.
  • Peter Pans name originated from one of Davies
sons, Peter. The pan part originated from the
    Greek God of the woodlands.

The Mystery Continued
  • It has also been thought that the character of
Peter Pan was based off of Barries brother David
who died in a skating accident at the age of 13.
  • It is with his brothers death Barrie said that
his brother would remain a boy forever. This
created the concept that Peter Pan would never
    grow up.

Final Thoughts
  • After careful research I have come to the
conclusion that Peter Pan was not a real person.
He was a fictional character. However, Barrie
drew inspiration for the character Peter from the
Llewellyn Davies boys. Particularly Peter whom he
named the character Peter Pan after.
  • When Barrie's brother died at 13 he stated that
his brother would be a boy forever, this created
the theme of Peter Pan never growing up.
