Purpose

• This program was designed to develop the research
  skills of 8th grade students in preparation for
  the Plainedge High School Research Program.

Eligibility

• Self selection open to any 8th grade student
• Families are encouraged to make the decision with
  their child
• Mature students who demonstrate ability to
  succeed in a more rigorous, independent work.

Earth Science

• ELA/ Social Studies

Social Studies

• Election project extension
• Additional presentation required for DP
• Entry into CSPAN Election project
• 3- 5 minute video to President elect

Integrated Algebra

• Participation in Plainedge Math Fair
• Includes research paper and presentation to
  authentic audience

Earth Science

• Conducting research on a global topic of
  interest. Presentation to authentic audience
  required.
• Earth Science teachers will serve as mentors to
  participants.

Procedure

• Student makes an appointment with counselor to
  discuss participation.
• Completes a packet which includes a Parent
  permission form.
• Student returns permission slip to counselor and
  packet to subject area teacher.

Rewards

• Students successfully completing the
  Distinguished Performance program also receive a
  1.1 weighting of their grades in any or all of
  the following courses Earth Science, Integrated
  Algebra, English Language Arts, Social Studies.
