  • 4 black white composition notebooks
  • 5 scissors
  • 5 large or 10 small glue sticks
  • 24 pencils (2 sharpened)
  • 5 two-pocket vinyl folders with 3 prongs
  • 2 rectangular erasers
  • 3 boxes of 24 count crayons
  • 1 box of colored pencils
  • 1 highlighter
  • 1 flat-clip clipboard
  • 2 low/no odor dry erase markers (assorted colors)
  • 1 pkg. top-loading sheet protectors (25 sheets)

Security
  • If you pick up your child during the school day,
    you must stop at the office and ask the office
    personnel to have your child come to the office
    prepared for dismissal.
  • Please make sure you sign your child out.
  • Also, if you come to the school during school
    hours, please notify office personnel that you
    are in the building. This helps the school keep a
    record of who is in and out of our school. This
    allows for general safety at our school.

Security
  • Written permission must be given for your child
    to ride a different bus or ride with someone else
    after school.

Medication
  • Written permission must be given to have
    medication (over the counter, cough drops, and
    prescription) dispensed at school.

Labeling
  • All items your child brings to school should be
    labelled with your child's name.

Snacks/Treats
  • Please send a small nutritious snack for your
    child daily.
  • In celebration of your child's birthday, you may
    send treats for the class. An advanced notice to
    the teacher is requested. This treat will be
    given to the students when they are in the
    cafeteria for lunch. Please send treats that are
    easy to handle distribute. Our time is
    limited.

F.I.S.H. Folder
  • We greatly appreciate your consistency in helping
    to make sure the folder gets to and from school
    every school day. Please check your childs
    folder nightly.

  • Left at home This is the left pocket of the
    folder. Everything that is placed in this pocket
    such as the school newsletter, announcements,
    etc. should be left at home and not returned to
    school.
  • Clear Pouch Please place any lunch money, field
    trip money, donation money into this pouch, and
    any letters written to the teacher.
  • Homework This section will contain the homework
    calendar. It will also contain any homework
    assignment given.
  • Daily Schedule This tells you what we will be
    doing each day and helps you to plan for visits
    to our classroom.

  • Class Roster For your personal reference
  • Newsletter This will tell you any information
    about upcoming events, spelling words, instant
    words, etc.
  • Behavior Calendar This calendar will inform you
    of your childs behavior daily. Please initial
    the calendar each day.
  • Spelling Composition This is for spelling
    homework only. It should be placed in right
    pocket of the folder. Please refer to the
    spelling schedule on the inside cover and the
    homework calendar.
  • Right Back to School This is the right pocket
    of the folder. Everything that is placed in this
    pocket should be returned back to school.

Behavior Management Plan
  • Each child has a Behaviour Card with four
    colored sticks (green ,yellow, blue, and red).
    Each child starts the day with a green stick. If
    an infraction occurs, a stick is pulled. Your
    childs behaviour will be noted each day on
    his/her Behaviour Calendar. Please initial each
    day indicating you have seen it.

Consequences Green stick --- Were having a
fin-tastic day! Verbal warning! Yellow stick
5 minutes time out at recess or free
time Blue stick 10 minutes of time out at
recess or free time Red stick - a note or
phone call to parents

  • Words Their Way by Donald Bear, Marcia
    Invernizzi, Shane Templeton, Francine Johnson
  • What is Words Their Way?
  • Words Their Way is a developmental spelling,
    phonics, and vocabulary program. It was
    developed by Invernizzi, Johnston, Bear, and
    Templeton. Words Their Way is intended to be a
    part of a balanced literacy plan that includes
    fluency, comprehension and writing. Word study
    is implemented as a small component of the
    literacy plan but it is also interwoven in actual
    reading and writing texts.

HOMEWORK
  • Homework assignments will reflect concepts and
    skills being studied in class. Homework will
    serve as a means of acceleration, remediation,
    and/or reinforcement.
  • Homework assignments will be noted on a Homework
    calendar.
  • Periodically, Special Assignments will be given
    that require more time. Students will receive a
    detailed instruction sheet explaining how to do
    the assignment and when the assignment is due.

HOMEWORK CONT.
  • Reading Log Students are to be reading
    something nightly whether it is story from class,
    AR book, etc. This should not take longer than
    10 minutes.
  • Spelling Homework Refer to calendar and spelling
    journal. Assignments given such as cut spelling
    words, repeat sort, practice test, etc.
  • Math Reinforcement from daily lesson. This may
    not be given daily. Study math facts daily.
  • Instant Words Practice recognizing words with
    speed. Using flashcards on ring will help.
  • Vocabulary Words Students should review meaning
    of the words. Using flashcards will also help.

  • Incentive Reading Program
  • Not a required or graded program in 1st grade
  • Must abide by the Honor Code
  • Students will check out books according to their
    reading level based on STAR testing.

Leaders in Literature
  • a school wide program where moms, dads,
    grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. are encouraged
    to come into the classroom and read to the
    children.
  • Coordinator communicates with teacher and parents
    to schedule times.
  • Please keep in mind that we are on a "tight"
    schedule therefore we ask that you stay with us
    about 15 minutes.
  • Please consider reading to your childs class
    for his/her birthday.
  • The volunteer reader becomes our Mystery
    Reader. This means that not even your child
    will know when you are coming to read. It will
    be a pleasant surprise! ?
