JOSH MCDOWELL initially intended to pursue legal
studies culminating in a political career, and
began preparatory studies at Kellogg College in
Michigan. According to McDowell, he was as an
agnostic at college when he decided to prepare a
paper that would examine the historical evidence
of the Christian faith in order to disprove it.
However, he converted to Christianity, after, as
he says, he found evidence for it, not against
it. He subsequently enrolled at Wheaton College,
Illinois, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts
degree. He then studied at Talbot Theological
Seminary of Biola University, La Mirada,
California. He completed an exit paper examining
the theology of Jehovah's Witnesses, and was
awarded the Master of Divinity degree graduating
Magna Cum Laude.

1 Corinthians 138-10 Love never fails but if
there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done
away if there are tongues, they will cease if
there is knowledge, it will be done away. For
we know in part and we prophesy in part but when
the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.
26
But when the perfect comes
  • G5046 te?e??? teleios tel'-i-os
  • From G5056 complete (in various applications of
labor, growth, mental and moral character, etc.)
neuter (as noun, with G3588) completeness - of

QUESTION Keeping this in context, how do you
get the New Testament Bible out of the phrase
that which is perfect?
CAUTION Use the correct principles of
Hermeneutics
27
But when the perfect comes
  • G5046 te?e??? teleios tel'-i-os
  • From G5056 complete (in various applications of
labor, growth, mental and moral character, etc.)
neuter (as noun, with G3588) completeness - of
    full age, man, perfect.

Paul was writing to Greek Converts who lived in a
culture that was seeking earthly perfection
through knowledge (epignosis)
28
EVIDENCE THAT DEMANDS A VERDICT
  • Who gave these 5 things and when did He say He
    was taking them away?
  • Now, If He did take the 2 away, why did He leave
3 of the 5 in place?

29
Ephesians 411-13 And He gave some as apostles,
and some as prophets, and some as evangelists,
and some as pastors and teachers, for the
equipping of the saints for the work of service,

EVIDENCE THAT DEMANDS A VERDICT
  • Who gave these 5 things and when did He say He
    was taking them away?
  • If He did take them away, why did He leave 3 of
    the 5 in place?
  • So, if He in fact didnt take them away...who
    did?

    teachers) 2 Thessalonians 23
  • Sound Theologians can be (and have been) mislead
    deceived throughout history. (Martin Luther)
