New Initiatives
17
Proposed BRAC Task Force

it establish a BRAC Subcommittee or that SAME
establish a new Committee or Task Force to focus
on BRAC implementation by the Services.
  • BRAC involves three SAME mission committees
Design and Construction, Strategic Sourcing, and
    Environmental.
  • Recommend establishing a Task Force rather than
    establishing another Mission Committee. Task
Force to facilitate industry interaction with DOD
    officials on BRAC implementation
  • RADM Loose to appoint Task Force Chair in
    November 2005

18
Webinars Sponsored by SAME
  • SAME HQ has selected a vendor to provide monthly
    Webinars to SAME members
  • Webinars supported by majority of members
    responding to SAME Member Survey
  • Webinars will provide a revenue stream for SAME
HQ which can be used to support other Society
    programs
  • SAME HQ will work with National Committees and
Councils to select high quality speakers and
    relevant topics.

19
Training and Education e-News
  • SAME is a 501(c)(3) organization, thereby placing
significant emphasis on Training and Education.
  • SAME has begun to promote Academic memberships
with colleges and universities which have
continuing education courses of interest to SAME
    members
  • SAME strategic alliances with other professional
    organizations will provide continuing education
to SAME members at reduced prices.
  • In addition to promoting the above training on
the SAME web site, SAME HQ plans to begin a
quarterly newsletter that would advertise to our
members training and education opportunities with
associations with whom we have agreements and
    relevant continuing education programs sponsored
    by SAME Academic Members.

20
Evaluation of CMAA Certification Program
  • SAME HQ has met with the Construction Management
Association of America (CMAA) and XD attended
CMAA national conference to assess its
    membership, programs and organization.
Currently, GSA, Postal Service and DHS are the
primary government agencies belonging to CMAA.
  • CMAA is focused on construction management and
has education and training programs and a
certification program that appears to be relevant
to DOD programs and sustaining member companies
    supporting DOD programs.
  • CMAA has developed an annual survey of owners and
CM companies. It would like to have SAME public
agency and sustaining members participate in the
survey to better include this sector of CM.
  • Plan to establish SAME Task Force to evaluate the
credential and, if positive, sponsor about 20
SAME members from the public and private sector
to take the exam and report the results to the
    Board.

21
Hosting of Key DOD Conferences

Training Conference (SAME HQ to bid for 2006
