Workforce Leadership Grants

• 4.5 million for FY 2002-03, 5 million for
• FY 2003-04, 5 million for FY 2004-05
• Purpose of Grants
• To establish 222 integrated and seamless
  secondary and post-secondary education and
  training in three industry clusters Bio/Life
  Sciences, Information Technology/Opto-Electronics
  and Advanced Manufacturing and Materials up to
  300,000/grant
• For local workforce regions to establish or
  expand workforce development services,
  particularly with degree granting programs up
  to 100,000/grant
• For flexible and responsive training programs for
  incumbent workers

• Integrated and Seamless Curriculum - Secondary
  Level Through 4Year College Degrees

• Curriculum Addresses Appropriate Nanotechnology
  Applications for these clusters
• Multiple Entry and Exit Points

PA Workforce Pipeline222 Educational Programs

• Secondary students must attain the level of
  advanced or proficient on each of the math,
  reading and writing assessments of the PSSA
• Guarantee/Warranty for each program level and for
  graduates (12 credits of retraining at any level
  if needed)
• Advanced placement into the next sequence of
  education (at least 15 credits into the next
  level)

• Provide technical assistance
• Ensure business involvement
• Collect and analyze curricula, articulation
  arrangements and other resource materials
• Disseminate program information through the
  establishment of an information clearinghouse and
  other methods

Workforce Leadership Grant Successes

• Increased student enrollment in cluster programs
  at each educational level
• The Multiple Pathway pipeline design across
  educational institutions allows for greater
  choice for students and greater chance for
  successful completion
• Business and educational partnerships have
  solidified in each region
