1
  • The AdvantAge Initiative Survey in Indiana

July 9, 2008
2
Purpose of Todays Call
  • Explain how to read and interpret the AdvantAge
Initiative survey findings, using the Indiana
    state data as an example

3
Survey Methodology Analytic Plan
  • 25-30 minute age-targeted random digit dial
    telephone survey
  • Conducted by International Communications
Research (ICR), a survey research firm in PA
  • Survey questionnaire based on the 4 domains in
the elder-friendly community framework and 33
    AdvantAge indicators
  • Indiana state added questions to questionnaire
  • 4,509 completed surveys in the state, 300 or
slightly more in each area (except area 2, which
was surveyed in 2006). Note current analysis of
state data does not include area 2.
  • Surveys completed in 5 designated NNORCs
    (Indianapolis, Gary, Huntington, Linton, South
    Bend)
  • Findings are weighted
  • Analyses conducted for population as a whole (in
the state the areas) and by selected
    demographic characteristics

4
Survey Findings
  • Deliverables for the state and each area include
  • Table of demographic characteristices
  • Toplines
  • Charts
  • Written explanation of how survey was conducted
    how to read/interpret findings
  • Findings are standardized, therefore area
findings may be compared with state findings

5
Demographic characteristics table
  • The state and each area will receive a table of
demographic characteristics for seniors aged 60.
  • Sample size 4,509 (unweighted N) vs. Population
    973,489 (weighted N)

6
Demographic characteristics table (contd)
  • Each areas demographic table follows this format
  • To translate into numbers, multiply percentage by
    weighted N (population size)

Note Percentages may not add up to 100 due to
rounding and/or missing information.  1 The
unweighted N represents the actual number of
adults age 60 and older interviewed.  2 The
weighted N represents the non-institutional
population of adults aged 60 and older in
Indiana, and is based on Claritas data. See the
methodology for more information about how the
weighted estimate was obtained.  3 All
percentages are based on the weighted N.
