School Wellness Policy
  • Required for all schools participating in the
    National School Lunch/Breakfast Program
  • Intended to help curb the childhood obesity
    problem.
  • Focus of the policy is physical activity and
    healthy eating for all students.

  • Adopted in May 2006
  • 4 Main Goals
  • PSD will support and promote a comprehensive
    learning environment for developing and
    practicing lifelong wellness behaviors.
  • PSD will support and promote proper dietary
    habits contributing to students health status
    and academic performance.
  • PSD will provide students more opportunities to
    engage in physical activity.
  • PSD will create a PSD Wellness Committee.

  • CSH mini-grants to 3 elementary schools and 9
    secondary schools (through CanDos LiveWell Fort
    Collins grant)
  • Channel 10 panel discussion on childhood obesity

  • Hosted Fit for Life Wellness Week
  • 19 schools participated in TV Turnoff Week
  • 10 schools participated in Bike to School Day
  • 3 JH/HS had Fit for Life booths in their
    cafeteria (Healthy Kids Club)
  • Other schools did wellness fairs, school walks,
    healthy potlucks, drop everything move,
    more!
