    Comberton staff.

3
Where are we going?
Beaumanor Education Centre is located in the
grounds of Beaumanor Park adjacent to Beaumanor
Hall. It is situated in the Leicestershire
village of Woodhouse surrounded by 30 acres of
gardens and parkland. The grounds include a
small wood with mature specimen trees, a stream
and pond and a formal garden. Beaumanor Education
Centre offers many activities and organised
events, all closely related to the requirements
of the National Curriculum. The range of
activities cover
  • archery
  • canoeing
  • climbing
  • challenges
  • arts and crafts
  • hill walking
  • orienteering
  • high ropes
  • The centre is staffed by qualified, experienced
teachers and instructors who are employed to lead
    specific activities.

4
Where we are staying
  • There are 5 cabins and a large campsite on the
grounds along with various activity areas.
  • The pupils will have the option of camping or
staying in a single sex cabin with between 16 and
20 beds. They can decide who they want to be with
but pupils who camp will have a maximum of 3 per
tent please make sure they have a tent! Staff
will either be in cabins or camping with pupils.
There is a girls side and a boys side to the
    campsite.
  • Our evening meals will be taken in the Hall
itself, with packed lunches and breakfast being
delivered each day to the cabins and campsite.
  • During the day pupils will work in groups of 12
with one member of Beaumanor staff and one
Comberton teacher to each group. Activities will
usually have two groups working together. The
groups will be made up from the tent and cabin
lists to ensure pupils have some of their friends
    with them.

their security. All belongings are brought at
your own risk. The college is not responsible for
them. If pupils bring a camera and/or personal
stereo they must look after them at all times.
Disposable cameras are an excellent idea.
    REMEMBER NO MOBILE PHONES.

9
Pocket Money
Pupils may bring some pocket money with them. We
recommend that they do not bring more than 10 in
small change. Beaumanor has a small gift shop
which pupils visit once. Pupils will be
responsible for the safety and security of their
own money during the week.
10
First Aid
We will be taking basic first aid kits with us.
There are qualified first aid staff at Beaumanor
Hall and among Comberton staff. If pupils
require prescription medication during the week,
written instructions regarding this should be
given to Mrs Compton on the Personal Details Form
which will be attached to the letter you will
receive soon. Personal medication will be looked
after by group leaders unless your child is
responsible for their own Epipen. In this case
they should carry this and their protocol for use
at all times. Medical needs and food allergy
information will be shared with staff at
Beaumanor.
11
So What Are We Doing?
  • There are eight different daytime activities for
your children to try. They are all staffed by

will travel to and from the climbing area by
minibus. All the equipment (helmets, ropes and
    harnesses) will be provided.
  • SAFETY IS VITAL. THEY MUST LISTEN CAREFULLY TO
    THE INSTRUCTIONS.

    three miles from Beaumanor.
  • Canoeing takes place on the River Soar. Tuition
is in open canoes or kayaks and pupils may opt to
    use either.
  • Buoyancy aids are provided and must be worn.
    Helmets will also be provided.

ARCHERY
Archery takes place in the gym on the Beaumanor
Site and consists of an introduction to archery.
This will be a three-hour session either in the
morning or afternoon in groups of up to 12. The
basic skills will be taught and there will be an
opportunity to practise them.
During the session there will be opportunities
to test their skill against the others in a
shooting competition. There may also be time to
have a go at shooting balloons and round the
face/clock competition.
15
ORIENTEERING
This activity will take place at Beacon Hill
close to Beaumanor Hall. There will be a series
of courses to be followed. This activity will be
linked to the walking activity so pupils will be
away from the site all day and have their packed
lunch at the Beacon.
16
Walking
  • This activity is linked to the orienteering on
    Beacon Hill.
  • We either walk to the Hill for orienteering or
    back to the Hall afterwards.
  • We have lunch in the middle of these two half day
    activities.

CHALLENGES

challenges which pupils have to work out as a
team. They will work together and be trusted
with specific tasks. This will help to build
self-confidence.
