What is AFP/IPDS?

• AFP (Advanced Function Presentation) the format
  created by IBM to allow advanced printing
  functionality such as graphics and bar codes for
  invoices and labels in high volume print
  environments
• IPDS (Intelligent Printer Data Stream) a
  printing protocol developed by IBM for IBM
  printers connected via twinax to iSeries and
  zSeries servers

Who uses IPDS?

• iSeries (a.k.a. i5/OS, AS/400) and zSeries
  (a.k.a. z/OS, OS/390) customers that use AFP/IPDS
  come from all business sectors, both large and
  small companies
• IPDS printing includes large business reports,
  bar code labels, and invoices in high volumes

What do IPDS users have in common?

• All have made an investment in IBM OS and
  hardware
• Advantages IBM OS/Hardware scale well, are fault
  tolerant, and are far more reliable than other
  alternatives
• Disadvantages IBM print environments can be
  expensive to maintain and upgrade
• Many computer systems still run IPDS print
  streams for graphics, barcodes, etc. to maximize
  their investment in IBM hardware

How does ExcelliPrint work?

• There are two versions Premium and Standard.
• ExcelliPrint Standard allows you to print IPDS
  documents on PCL printers, replacing DIMMs and
  SIMMs. ExcelliPrint Premium adds the ability to
  save documents to disk in various formats and
  provides built-in iSeries device and spool file
  management. Premium also gives you access to the
  Windows print driver (GDI) to format your IPDS
  print jobs and apply all finishing functions.
• ExcelliPrint runs on Windows? based computers
  (2000, XP, XP Pro, 2003, Vista)
• Accepts IPDS print requests from iSeries and
  zSeries (Midrange/Mainframe) computers over
  TCP/IP networks
• Converts IPDS print stream to printer language
  and passes to the Windows spooler for printing

• ExcelliPrint supports 1 to unlimited output
  devices (for example, 2 printers or 3 printers
  and 1 network drive, and so on)
• Receives print jobs without requiring a Windows
  user to be logged in to the computer where
  ExcelliPrint is running
• An embedded Web server supports SSL and does not
  require Apache or IIS to be installed through
  SSL, sensitive information remains protected
• ExcelliPrint Premium only
