  • Many women know the healthy eating message, but
    lack the skills to put it all together.

Education Tool
  • Placemat idea was developed
  • Provides a quick visual aid
  • Illustrates how to make a complete meal that
    meets Canadas Food Guide to Healthy Eating
    guidelines

Placemat
  • The front side of the tool is designed to feature
    a dinner plate
  • Portion sizes are identified using a T shape on
    the dinner plate
  • The addition of a bread and butter plate, glass
    of milk and dessert round out the meal

Recipes
  • The back side of the placemat features simple
    recipe ideas and how-tos
  • Nutrition Tips on milk products and grain
    products are offered for those wanting additional
    nutrition information
  • Canadas Food Guide food groups are identified

Recipes for a Week
  • Menus and recipes were developed for one week
  • Mix and match recipes to create different menus
  • Shopping list accompanied the tool
  • Handy tool when other family members prepare
    dinner- leave a copy for dad or the kids to put
    together a well-balanced meal

Production of the Tool
  • A luncheon was held for regional dietitians
  • (10 attended)
  • Enthusiastic response to project and all
    volunteered to help with the Campaign
  • Draft reviewed at the luncheon
  • Printing and fund-raising followed
  • 600 copies printed
  • 8x11 hard stock was chosen
  • Placemats ring-bound

Community Campaign
  • Nutrition Month in March was chosen to launch the
    campaign
  • One grocery store in each community was used for
    the event
  • Bracebridge, Burks Falls, Gravenhurst,
    Huntsville and Parry Sound

  • 2-3 dietitians covered each store
  • 6 hr coverage
  • Coverage over lunch and supper in most stores
  • Toolkit provided for dietitians
  • Disposable cameras included

  • Radio Stations received press release
