TREATMENT/EDUCATION PROCESS
  • Alcohol Related Incident (ARI)
  • Occurs when, in the commanders' judgment, the
    ingestion of alcohol was a contributing factor to
    an event that resulted in a violation of the
    UCMJ.

  • What should happen when a Drug/ARI takes place?
  • Document the incident by entries in Page 11, 12
    or 13, eval, FITREP.
  • Refer clearance eligibility incidents to
    Department of the Navy Central Adjudicating
    Facility (DONCAF).
  • Take appropriate disciplinary action
  • Refer the individual to the unit Substance
    Abuse Control Officer (SACO) for initial
    screening and referral to the nearest CSAPT for
    evaluation

PATIENT PLACEMENT
  • Placement recommendation based on the assessment,
    not the drug or alcohol diagnosis. The Medical
    Officer is the deciding authority.

INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM
  • CSAPTs will assemble an IDT, at least weekly,
    to review the treatment plan and progress for
    each patient.
  • IDT will consist of appropriately trained
    individuals able to assess, intervene, and treat
    patients regarding drug and alcohol use. (e.g.,
    Physicians, Substance Abuse Counselors, and the
    Medical Officer.)

AFTERCARE
  • The Commanding Officer will place Marines that
    complete treatment in an aftercare status for 12
    months.
  • CSAPT provides a written aftercare plan
  • Plans vary for each person
  • Aftercare services are provided at the unit
    level, not the CSAPT

AFTERCARE
  • Aftercare requires close supervision and
    mandatory completion to include participation in
    self-help groups.
  • Unit SACOs are responsible for Monitoring.
  • Marines must meet with the unit SACO at least
    bi-weekly.
