11- Respect is the first Character Trait we chose to
combine with skills of success in a plan of
action. - Napa Valley School District helped us determine
these Skills of success under Respect - Kindness
- Caring
- Patience
- Cooperation
- Tolerance
- Politeness
12James A. Michener once said, "Character consists
of what you do on the third and fourth
tries. This helps us to keep striving for our
goals even if we are not successful on the first
and second tries. Steve Johnson, S.M., (Director
of character education at the Ethics Center and
director of alternative and correctional
education in SCU's Department of Education)
says, Integrity is when your actions align with
your beliefs. We decided that to learn RESPECT
we needed to take kindness, caring, patience,
cooperation, tolerance, and politeness and
combine them with deliberate acts of
thankfulness. So, we have determined that we
will strive to the following goals
13- We would show acts of kindness to our siblings
especially the younger ones by taking a special
time with them doing something that they consider
special. - We would strive to cooperate with our teachers at
school by doing everything they asked the first
time without questioning, objecting or excusing. - We would determine to show a caring and patient
attitude towards our parents - We would attempt to show tolerance for everyone
in our classes by listening when they are
expressing their personal opinion especially when
we do not agree. - We would be diligent to be polite to those that
we are asked to work with in cooperative groups.
We will try to find common ground and compromise
whenever possible.
14- Responsibility is the second Character Trait we
chose to combine with skills of success in a plan
of action. - Napa Valley School District helped us determine
these Skills of success under Responsibility - Punctual
- Prepared
- Helpful
- Dependable
- Self-reliant
- Answerable
15Steve Johnson also said, (Director of character
education at the Ethics Center and director of
alternative and correctional education in SCU's
Department of Education) coping skills are
emotional management, anger control, impulse
control, stress management, and so forth.
Cooperation skills include dealing with people
and dealing with conflict situations. We
decided that to learn RESPONSIBILITY we needed to
take punctual, prepared, helpful, dependable,
self-reliant, and answerable and combine them
with deliberate acts of . So, we have determined
that we will strive to the following goals
16- We will be punctual every day for school.
- We will be prepared for each and every class in
school. This means our hearts (good attitudes),
our hands (supplies and materials needed for
class) and our heads (doing every assignment
including homework) to the best of our ability. - We will be helpful to five people a week (one a
day). Our targets (those we help) will be
those that we have rarely met or talked with. - By being dependable to do our chores at home on
time and without being told will display our
earnestness about this plan of action. - We can demonstrate our ability to be self-reliant
by helping each other not be swayed by peer
pressure. We want to be answerable to ourselves
and our good conscience.
