Diabetes
  • Disease in which the body does not produce enough
    insulin
  • Insulin is a hormone needed to convert sugar,
starches, and other foods into energy
  • There are 3 types of diabetes

4
Diabetes Type 1
  • A type 1 diabetic is a person who cannot produce
    insulin.
  • Usually found in young adults and children
  • Also known as juvenile diabetes.
  • Complications can occur to your health if you do
    not manage your diabetes.

5
Diabetes Type 2
  • Most common form
  • Either the body does not produce enough insulin
    or cells ignore the insulin.
  • Amputations are an effect to the patient when
they do not manage their diabetes closely.

6
Diabetes Gestational
  • 4 of pregnant women who have never had diabetes
before but who have high blood sugar (glucose)
levels during pregnancy can be affected.
  • Hormones from the placenta block the action of
    the mothers insulin.
  • Glucose cannot leave the blood and be changed to
    energy.

Most Prone
  • People that are inactive and do not exercise.
  • Individuals prolong going to annual check ups.
  • People that weigh 2x more their ideal body weight
  • i.e.- a person that is 59 should
    weigh about 160- 170lbs ideally.

years and has not spent A day in the hospital.
Legendary singer Patti Labelle has been living
with diabetes for 15 years. She is now known as
a spokeswoman for OneTouch Ultra.
