3 Learning Styles
  • Visual
  • Auditory
  • Kinesthetic

3
Visual
  • Work best if the lesson is something that they
    can see and/ or watch
  • Written materials and instructions, diagrams,
    posters, and demonstrations.
  • Usually neat and well organized.
  • Works well with those wanting to do course work
    via distance education.

4
Auditory
  • Learned best if an oral component to the material
    is present
  • Filter the info they hear and store the relevant
data but not always picture it
  • May use phrases such as, I hear you
  • Some education courses have audio and/or video
    taped components

5
Kinesthetic
  • Touch or feel what they are learning about
  • Do not always have a good time sense or sense of
    orderliness or neatness
  • Speak of their learning in terms of feelings, I
    feel
  • Excel in courses that are more project
    oriented

Teaching Styles
  • Formal Authority
  • Demonstrator or Personal Model
  • Facilitator
  • Delegator

8
Formal Authority
  • Focus on content
  • Teacher-centered
  • Teacher responsible for controlling the flow of
    content.
  • "I am the flashlight for my students, I
illuminate the content and materials so that my
students can see the importance of the material
    and appreciate the discipline.
  • No relationship building
  • Little to none class participation

9
Demonstrator or Personal Model
  • Teacher-centered classes
  • Emphasis on demonstration and modeling
  • Demonstrates skills and then helps students
develop and apply these skills and knowledge
  • I show my students how to properly do a task or
work through a problem and then Ill help them
master the task or problem solution. Its
important that my students can independently
solve similar problems by using and adapting
    demonstrated methods.
  • Encourage student participation

10
Facilitator
  • Focus on activities
  • Student-centered learning
  • Works best for students who are comfortable with
    independent learning
  • Students who can actively participate and
collaborate with other students also benefit
  • Design group activities which necessitate active
    learning
  • Activities that require student processing and
application of course content in creative and
    original ways

11
Delegator
  • Place much control and responsibility for
learning on individuals or groups of students
  • Gives students a choice designing and
implementing their own complex learning projects
and will act in a consultative role
  • Work independently or in groups
  • Learn more than just course specific topics but
also work in group situations and manage various
    interpersonal roles

12
Why?
  • Teachers have individual approaches to teaching -
and students recognize this. There is no
standard approach to teaching that every teacher
should strive to adopt, but certain strategies
are valuable in the classroom. Varying teaching
styles should be used to address the different
learning styles and needs of each individual
    classroom. SHAZAAM!!
