New NPO Linked order set Announcement Effective
at HUP and PPMC 7/24/07
HUP and PPMC NPO Linked Order Set will enable
clinicians to meet the patients post
test/procedure dietary needs from one
screen. NPO Linked Order Set provides One stop
shopping 5 new NPO orders- 4 orders for test or
procedure are available which link to a
conditional post procedure diet. A conditional
order is a field which indicates that this order
is conditional, and will only be activated (using
the Activate function in the Orders Tab) if the
condition is met.
- NPO for test/procedure NOW linked to a
conditional post procedure diet. - NPO for test/procedure After midnight linked to a
conditional post procedure diet. - NPO-Hold TEN NOW linked to a Resume TEN order.
- NPO-Hold TEN After midnight linked to a Resume
TEN order. - NPO Standard order (No Linked order) Use when
oral intake is contraindicated. Do not use this
order for temporary NPO situations such as
test/procedure.

- 5 New NPO orders
- NPO for test/procedure NOW linked to a
conditional post procedure diet - NPO After midnight for test/procedure linked to a
conditional post procedure diet - NPO-Hold TEN NOW linked to a Resume TEN
conditional order - NPO-Hold TEN After midnight linked to a Resume
TEN conditional order. - NPO standard order (no linked order) Use when
oral intake is contraindicated. Do not use this
order for temporary NPO situations such as
test/procedure. - NPO orders set will be available on 7/24/07 at
900 am - NPO orders placed prior to this time will remain
active until completed or discontinued - Access to the old NPO orders will be restricted
to the those orders which appear in order sets
- 7/24/07 through 8/3/07
- Order sets will be updated with the new NPO
orderset over a period of two weeks. What does
this mean? User will need to order NPO orders
outside the orderset until all ordersets have
been up dated with the new NPO order.
