What exactly is the Nudura Building System?

• Nudura is an integrated form system for
  building concrete walls, known as an Insulated
  Concrete Form (ICF). The system uses foam blocks
  that lock together similar to toy building
  blocks, which build a wall that is then filled
  with reinforcing steel and concrete. The result
  is a very strong concrete wall with insulation
  and vapor barrier integrated in one step.

• A Nudura Form Unit has three main parts
• Two layers of recyclable EPS (Expanded
  PolyStyrene) Foam form a double layer of
  insulation protection
• Middle space which becomes the concrete core and
  strength of the wall
• Nuduras patented hinged folding web, which
  allows the forms to be folded flat for efficient
  transport and have pre placed slots for locking
  in steel reinforcing bars

• Foundation
• Start with a concrete footing, no different than
  what you would use on any other concrete wall or
  concrete block wall.

• Form units are then stacked on top of the
  footing, with the vertical steel of the footing
  positioned close to the centre of the of the form
  unit.

• The forms are built up one course at a time.
• A Nudura site is clean with very little wastage.

Usually a crew of 2 to 4 workers is all that is
required with the Nudura building system.

• Steel Reinforcement
• On each course the horizontal reinforcing steel
  is installed by locking into the notches in the
  web.

• The notches allow for quick, easy and secure
  placement of rebar with little or no tying
  required.
• The Nudura System is designed for simplicity and
  speed at all stages.

• Doorways and windows are framed as you work
  upward.

• Utility holes for plumbing and electrical access
  are easy to cut into the foam before the concrete
  is poured.

• Bracing
• The Nudura alignment system is then attached to
  the wall to provide three functions.
• To provide secure temporary bracing for the
  forms.
• The diagonal support (turnbuckle) easily turns to
  adjust the wall to be plumb and straight.

• The scaffold bracket locks in to the top of the
  alignment system. This provides a safe and secure
  walk way to access the top of the wall.
• Very helpful during the concrete pour.

• The alignment system is also designed to work on
  top of scaffolding for taller walls.

• Vertical Steel Placement
• Vertical steel is then threaded down from the
  top.
• This is done very easily when the horizontal
  bars are alternated in the notches of the webs on
  each course.

• Pouring the Concrete
• Concrete is then poured in to the form and
  vibrated or rodded to consolidate the concrete.
• When the wall is poured as one solid slab it is
  much stronger than when it is poured in separate
  cells as in concrete block.

• Utilities
• After the wall is poured the plumbers and
  electricians can proceed.
• This work is done very fast, since most or all
  of it can be cut into the foam insulation.

• Working in the foam means the plumbers and
  electricians do not need to be working during
  wall construction as they would with a concrete
  block wall. No jackhammer required.

Cutting into the foam can be done with hot
knives, hand routers, electric chainsaws and more.

• Windows Doors
• Just as there is more than one way to frame out
  windows and doors with the Nudura system, there
  are different ways to mount your windows and
  doors. You can choose which method is best for
  you.

• The Roof
• There are literally are dozens of ways to attach
  a roof to a Nudura wall. When building for high
  wind conditions such as hurricanes or tornadoes,
  it is recommended to anchor the roof directly
  into the concrete.
• As seen in this photo where floor joist hangers
  are turned on end to anchor the wood trusses.

• Exterior Siding
• Any code approved exterior finish can be
  attached to a Nudura wall.
• Integrated into the foam insulation are vertical
  strips of high density plastic.
• These strips can hold a screw or a nail with the
  same strength as a wood stud.

• Any type of paneling (wood, vinyl, concrete
  etc.) can be nailed or screwed to the stripes the
  same as wood or steel studs.
• Metal mesh can be screwed on to anchor and
  prevent cracks in concrete finishes.
• Fiber glass mesh can be used for acrylic base
  finishes.

• There are even special brick ledge forms that
  create a shelf or ledge to carry the weight of
  bricks or stone facing.
• The Nudura system also creates its own vapor
  barrier, which means you dont need to apply a
  vapor barrier such as Tyvek or Tar Paper.
