NCLB School Choice FAQs
  • Why are my children eligible for NCLB School
    Choice?
  • Children are eligible for school choice when
the Title I school they attend has not made
Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two
consecutive years or longer as defined by the
state under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.

25
NCLB School Choice Transfer
  • What do I do if I dont want my child to leave
the school they are in now?
  • Your child does not have to transfer to
another school. If you wish to have your child
remain in his/her assigned school, mark that
selection on the form and return the form to your
    current school.

26
NCLB School Choice Transfer
  • Can I choose any school in
  • Palm Beach County?
  • No. It is the Districts responsibility to
provide two schools from which you may choose.
Under the NCLB Act school choice is limited to a
choice of another public school, including
    charter schools.

27
NCLB School Choice Transfer
  • Can all of my children attend the same school?
  • Possibly. Efforts will be made to keep brothers
and sisters in the same school. However, due to
the academic rank order requirement, brothers and
sisters may be placed at different schools.

28
NCLB School Choice Transfer
  • How long may my child stay at the new school?
  • Your child may stay at the new school until he
or she has completed the highest grade level at
    that school.

NCLB School Choice Transfer
  • Will my child always have transportation to the
    NCLB Choice School?
  • Possibly. However, the District is no longer
required to provide transportation once the
school of origin has maintained AYP for two
    consecutive years or becomes a non-Title I
    school.

30
NCLB School Choice Transfer
  • What if I move to a new area in Palm Beach
Countywill I have to move my child to another

your own transportation if you move out of the
    school boundary area.
