Objectives
  • Improve Healing Process in Diabetic Patients
  • Improve Sensitivity of Surface Electrodes
  • Developing Non-invasive Acupuncture Therapy

3
Background
  • Polymorphonuclear leukocytes, PMNs and
mononuclear leukocytes, MNLs, have had their
migration investigated in vitro over that last 2
decades or more. The influence of magnetic
fields, the effect of photons from light emitting
diodes (LEDs) at different wavelengths and
intensities have been studied, and the use of
    electromagnetic stimulation at different
    dielectric relaxation frequencies have been
    applied in vitro.
  •
  • The comparison of the relative value of the
distance to cell migration under stimulation and
without stimulation is recorded as cytokinetics
index, K.I., which is a measure of the
cytokinesis which is the progress of cell
movement in which the migration is enhanced by
substances in the cell environment irrespective
of a concentration gradient. Cytotaxis is the
directional movement of the cells along a
chemical gradient formed by chemoattractant while
cytokinesis is the process of cell movement in
which the migration is enhanced by substances in
the cell environment irrespective of a
    concentration gradient (random migration).

4
Background (Cont..)
  • PMNs comprise 58 and MNLs approximately 38 of
normal blood count. MNLs comprise about 10
monocytes and 90 of lympocytes while PMN peak
emigration occurs within the first 6 hours after
an assault on the body. MNLs predominate after 12
hours. Applications of this enhanced migration
will be investigated relative to wound healing in
    diabetic patients, enhanced electrode
    sensitivity and surface acupuncture therapy.

Approaches
  • Biomedical Optics Physics
  • LEDS with different wavelengths
  • Magnets (Permanent, Helmholtz Coil) with
    different Gauss Levels
  • Optical and Magnetic Interaction of Biological
    Tissues
  • Measure Skin Impedance using Invasive
    (Acupuncture Needles) and Non-invasive (Surface)
    Electrodes
  • Input Current lt 5mA, Frequency Ranges
    (500 hz 10 Mhz)

6
Equipments Devices
  • Impedance Analyzer
  • Power Supply
  • Gauss Meter
  • Helmholtz Coils (Cored, Coreless)
  • Permanent Magnets
  • Acupuncture Needles
  • LEDs (Red, Green, Yellow, Orange)
  • Alcohol, wires, batteries and others.

7
New Electrode Design for Improved Sensitivity and
Healing process
New Surface Electrode Design
LED Patches for diabetic wound
8
Magnetic Optical Interaction on Phantom Tissue
9
In-Vivo Measurement of Skin Impedance
Weak Gauss (lt12 G)
Strong Gauss (gt12 G), Dr. Beard was protected by
Metallic Shield. (Implanted Defibrillator lt 9G )
10
Impedance Change by Acupuncture Needle
Frequency Ranges 500 Hz 10 MHz Oscillator
Voltage 5 mV
11
Electrocardiogram (ECG) by IQ Impedance System
with 100 kHz and 5mA
The peak-to-peak of ECG signal was improved about
10 on the average (Lead II Configuration)
