Summary

• In April of 2006 the Early Learning Coalition of
  Broward County held a Spring into Health Fair
• This Health Fair offered an array of free health
  related services to families in the community,
  while raising funds for unmet Early Care and
  Education needs through sponsorships,
  contributions and exhibitor fees

Making it Happen

• The Coalition formed a Community Relations and
  Resource Development Committee (CRRD), comprised
  of business members, providers and
  representatives from community-based
  organizations
• The CRRD Committees charge to develop
  innovative ways to raise money to address unmet
  needs in Browards Early Care and Education
  system and is supported by an ELC staff member
  whose position is partly paid for by local
  Childrens Services Council funds

• The CRRD Committee proposed the Spring Into
  Health Fair as the Coalitions largest
  fundraising event for 2005/2006
• Overwhelming support to pursue this endeavor was
  obtained from Coalition members and other
  community partners

• A partnership package was developed to obtain
  sponsorships and contributions to underwrite the
  cost of the event, as well as to raise money
• The partnership package was widely distributed
  through e-mail blasts, providers and Board
  contacts
• Service providers and exhibitors were actively
  sought to participate in the event

• The Coalition was successful in securing the
  following main sponsorships

  and ANF Group Bronze Sponsors
• The Coalition also received valuable
  contributions from Kaplan Early Learning Company,
  First United Bank, and a number of individuals
  including many Coalition Members

• February 2006 Save the Date flyers were
  distributed to Broward County child care
  providers
• March 2006 child care providers received copies
  of the official invitation for the Spring Into
  Health Fair
• Provider representatives encouraged their
  colleagues to transport parents in need or assist
  with organizing carpools
• The Spring Into Health Fair was advertised
  through Community Partners, local media and the
  Coalitions website
• Attendees were given the opportunity to
  pre-register via phone or the Coalitions website

Results and Future Plans

• Over 300 parents and children attended to
  receive blood pressure screenings, cholesterol
  screenings, diabetes screenings, hearing
  screenings, developmental screenings, vision
  screenings, nutritional information, child ID
  cards, physicals, immunizations, and a variety of
  educational information from community groups
  all FREE of charge
•  
• Over 200 Certificates of Eligibility were
  distributed for the Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten
  Summer 2006 and School Year 2006/2007 Programs
•

Results and Future Plans (cont.)

• The Spring Into Health Fair will raise over
  21,000 in funds to be used for unmet local ECE
  needs
• Through the Child Care Executive Partnership,
  several sponsors donations were matched, and it
  is anticipated that several more may be matched
  in 2006/2007, thereby doubling their investments
• The next event with which the Coalition will
  raise funds to address unmet needs is an online
  auction, to occur in the month of June 2006
