ACCREDITATION
  • FAU School of Social Work BSW Program is
    accredited by the Council on Social Work
    Education (CSWE)
  • Helps assure that the program is providing
    quality education to students
  • Students are eligible for admission to advanced
    standing MSW programs if they have graduated from
    a CSWE accredited BSW program.
  • In states where state licensure is required at
    the BSW level, such licensure can be granted only
    to a graduate of a CSWE accredited BSW program.

Overview of the BSW Curriculum

  • Profession of Social Work (SOW 3302) is part of a
    curriculum pie introducing and relating with
  • Policy (SOW3232) uses this course as a foundation
    for examining policy issues in the field.
  • Human Behavior in the Social Environment (HBSE l
    ll) courses build upon the study of client
    groups and social issues introduced in this
    course.

OVERVIEW CONT
  • Research shows how our profession builds its
    knowledge base in order to equip effective
    social work professionals.
  • Practice courses teach how to help or intervene
    to assist clients
  • Electives enhance student knowledge (or using
    their heads) in an area of interest an/or field
    of practice.
  • All study culminates in the field internship
    during the final semester as students integrate
    and demonstrate social work values, knowledge and
    skills in an approved agency under the
    supervision of a professional social worker.

Professional Expectations
  • Social Work is a professional program with
    expectations for professional behaviors
  • In every class the handout, Professional
    Expectations of Student Behavior is distributed
    either as part of the syllabus or separately.
    These behaviors correspond to behavioral
    standards written in the NASW code of Ethics.
  • Failure to adhere to these expectations may
    result in dismissal from the program.

COMPETENT WRITING
  • Competence is a social work value.
  • Social workers must be able to write in a


    coherent manner,
    using correct grammar and spelling.
  • Since many students have difficulty with
    writing, writing centers have opened on the
    following campuses to help students improve their
    writing skills.

IMPORTANT
  • Students must obtain a C or better in any
    social work course. A social work course in which
    a C- is obtained must be repeated.
  • In order to enter field, the student must have
    at least a 2.5 cumulative average at FAU.
  • Students must have completed all course
    requirements before entering field in their final
    semester.
  • CLAST and Gordon Rule must be satisfied before
    entering field

IMPORTANT!
  • YOU HAVE FIVE YEARS!
  • Social work degree must be completed within five
    years. At the time of graduation, any course that
    was taken more than five years previously must be
    repeated.
