Successful Parenting
  • Family series Part 2 of 6

Pastor Dave Martin Cross Creek Community Church

2
We must reach our Generation
  • Psalms 7118 Even when I am old and gray, do not
forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to
the next generation, your might to all who are to
    come.

3
  • Psalms 783-6 3 what we have heard and known,
what our fathers have told us. 4 We will not hide
them from their children we will tell the next
generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD,
his power, and the wonders he has done. 5 He
decreed statutes for Jacob and established the
law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers
to teach their children, 6 so the next generation
would know them, even the children yet to be
born, and they in turn would tell their children.

Successful Parenting Principles
5
1. Parenting Must Deal with the Childs Sinful
Nature.
  • Romans 87-8 7 the sinful mind is hostile to God.
It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do
so. 8 Those controlled by the sinful nature
    cannot please God.
  • 2 Timothy 315 and how from infancy you have
known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make
you wise for salvation through faith in Christ
    Jesus.

6
Parents are the most vital influence in a childs
Life.
  • Ephesians 64 Fathers, do not exasperate your
children instead, bring them up in the training
    and instruction of the Lord.

7
2. Parenting Must be Pro-active and Full-time.
  • Deuteronomy 66-7 6 These commandments that I
give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7
Impress them on your children. Talk about them
when you sit at home and when you walk along the
road, when you lie down and when you get up.
  • James 122 Do not merely listen to the word, and
so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

8
Parenting success is measured by what parents do.
  • Deuteronomy 49 Only be careful, and watch
yourselves closely so that you do not forget the
things your eyes have seen or let them slip from
your heart as long as you live. Teach them to
your children and to their children after them.

9
3. Parenting Must set the correct Priority
Agenda.
  • Joshua 2415 But if serving the LORD seems
undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves
this day whom you will serve, whether the gods
your forefathers served beyond the River, or the
gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are
living. But as for me and my household, we will
    serve the LORD."
  • Matthew 633 But seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will be given
    to you as well.

10
Parenting is a joy not a burden.
  • Proverbs 2917 Discipline your son, and he will
give you peace he will bring delight to your
    soul.

11
4. Parenting Must Instill Godly Character.
  • Proverbs 226 Train a child in the way he should
go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

12
  • Ecclesiastes 121,13-14 Remember your Creator
in the days of your youth, before the days of
trouble come and the years approach when you will
say, "I find no pleasure in them" 13 Now all has
been heard here is the conclusion of the matter
Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is
the whole duty of man. 14 For God will bring
every deed into judgment, including every hidden
thing, whether it is good or evil.

13
Parenting is a blessing not a hardship.
  • Psalms 1273-5 3 Sons are a heritage from the
LORD, children a reward from him. 4 Like arrows
in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's
youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full
of them. They will not be put to shame when they
contend with their enemies in the gate.
